American Book Company

A phased Salesforce and commerce program that kept changing as the business learned.

American Book Company needed Salesforce to support sales, marketing, online ordering, fulfillment, payments, and finance handoffs across school-district purchasing workflows.

Operating challenge

The original phase plan evolved materially as the team moved through Sales Cloud, Marketing Account Engagement, Commerce Cloud, checkout, QuickBooks, Authorize.net replacement, FedEx/NGR shipping logic, FileMaker dependencies, fulfillment flow, and change-request decisions.

What Lodestone shaped

  • Delivered the Sales Cloud and Marketing Account Engagement foundation before moving Commerce Cloud through UAT and demo/training planning.
  • Mapped QuickBooks invoicing around Salesforce-originated sales orders, purchase order numbers, ship-to details, product/service lines, shipping, tracking, and sales rep visibility.
  • Helped separate one-way Salesforce-to-QuickBooks invoice needs from payment collection, online commerce payment processing, fulfillment, and later phase-three integration work.

Resulting direction

  • The project plan stayed usable as phase one, phase two, and phase three shifted from initial scope into a more nuanced integration roadmap.
  • Finance and sales requirements became clearer around what should flow to QuickBooks, what should stay controlled in Salesforce, and what needed human review before invoicing.
  • Commerce, checkout, order management, course verification, shipping, fulfillment, and change requests could be managed as connected milestones instead of isolated requests.
